In this ERN Rare-Liver webinar, held on 09 July 2024, Leona Dold, Catherine Williamson, Jan Philipp Weltzsch discuss the recent EASL Clinical  Practice Guideline on the management of liver disease in pregnancy and how pregnancy should be monitored in a patient with a complicated course of autoimmune hepatitis.

Chair

Leona Dold Leona Dold graduated from medical school in 2008, and started her clinical training in the Depart-ment of Internal Medicine I at the University Hospital Bonn (Germany). The department is specialized on gastroenterology, hepatology and infectious diseases. From 04/2016-09/2017 she carried out a re-search project about neutralizing antibodies in Hepatitis C in the laboratory of experimental immunol-ogy in Cologne (head: Prof. Dr. F Klein). This work was funded by a stipend from the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). After this, she returned to the medical department where she works at the outpatient department for gastroenterology and hepatology and provides a special consultation hour for patients with PSC. Leona is specialized on autoimmune liver diseases, especially PSC.

Speakers

Catherine Williamson Catherine Williamson is Professor of Women’s Health at Imperial College London. She is also Con-sultant in Obstetric Medicine at Queen Charlotte’s, St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a NIHR Senior Investigator. In her clinical practice she manages women with medical disorders in pregnancy. Her research focuses on the endocrine signals that influence alterations in bile acid, lipid and glucose homeostasis in normal and pathological preg-nancies. She also studies the maternal and fetal aetiology, outcomes and management of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease and severe hyperemesis gravi-darum.
Jan Philipp Weltzsch Jan Philipp is currently completing his specialist training in internal medicine with a focus on hepato-logical and gastroenterological diseases at the I. Med. Department at the UKE. His clinical and scien-tific focus is on autoimmune liver and biliary diseases. Since 2023, he has been an active member of the Pregnancy Working Group within the ERN, where he addresses autoimmune liver diseases in the context of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
