Description
The global prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is increasing. People are at higher risk of developing MASLD and MASH if they have one or more cardiometabolic risk factors, including obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), hypertension and dyslipidemia.
In this panel discussion, Professors Aleksander Krag (hepatologist from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense University Hospital), Juan Mendive (primary care physician from the Catalan Institute of Health, University of Barcelona), Arun Sanyal (hepatologist from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia) and Geltrude Mingrone (endocrinologist from King’s College London and Università Cattolica del S. Cuore) summarize their key recommendations for the management of people with MASLD or MASH. They discuss how effective management of MASLD and MASH requires collaboration across specialties – from primary care to endocrinology and hepatology – and a truly holistic approach that addresses all cardiometabolic risk factors alongside liver health.
