Management of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and/or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) involves targeting fat accumulation and the metabolic risk factors that promote disease progression.
Professors Aleksander Krag (hepatologist from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense University Hospital) and Arun Sanyal (hepatologist from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia) share their clinical insights on the optimal management of MASLD/MASH, the role of early screening and the importance of holistic and integrated multidisciplinary care. As part of such a comprehensive treatment approach, they discuss recommended lifestyle modifications – focusing on diet and exercise – as well as pharmacological therapy, including the management of all the cardiometabolic risk factors, and bariatric/endoscopic surgery.
Linking lifestyle and liver health
Learning Objectives
To raise awareness of MASLD/MASH as a manifestation of metabolic disease, and the importance of timely diagnosis to prevent disease progression
To improve understanding of risk factors and comorbidities for MASLD/MASH, focusing on obesity
To discuss optimal management of people with MASLD/MASH, from diagnosis to treatment, and the role of multidisciplinary collaboration
The following speakers have received an honorarium from Novo Nordisk for their input to and facilitation of this educational material:
