Description

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) are the liver manifestations of a range of metabolic conditions including obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Professors Aleksander Krag (hepatologist from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense University Hospital) and Geltrude Mingrone (endocrinologist from King’s College London and Università Cattolica del S. Cuore) discuss the role of endocrinologists and the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for the management of patients with MASLD or MASH, particularly focusing on how to assess liver health in patients with T2D.

The endocrinologist and the patient with MASLD/MASH

Learning Objectives

  • To raise awareness of MASLD/MASH as a manifestation of metabolic disease
  • To improve understanding of risk factors and comorbidities for MASLD/MASH, focusing on type 2 diabetes
  • To highlight the role of endocrinology in the diagnosis and management of people with MASLD/MASH, in light of potential metabolic comorbidities such as obesity and type 2 diabetes
  • To discuss optimal multidisciplinary collaboration between endocrinology, primary care and hepatology to improve care of people with MASLD/MASH
