Description

People with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) can often present with associated cardiovascular disease (CVD), and vice versa.

Professors Aleksander Krag (hepatologist from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense University Hospital) and Geltrude Mingrone (endocrinologist from King’s College London and Università Cattolica del S. Cuore) discuss liver and non-liver-related adverse outcomes of MASLD and MASH. They review shared cardiometabolic risk factors in MASLD and CVD, and highlight the importance of screening for liver disease in patients with CVD, as well as of CVD screening in those with MASLD/MASH. They explore key secondary risk assessment tests for patients with high risk of advanced liver disease and how to strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration for improved patient outcomes.

Adverse outcomes in patients with MASLD/MASH

Learning Objectives

  • To improve understanding of the risk factors and comorbidities for MASLD/MASH, and specifically the link between CV and MASLD
  • To raise awareness of adverse outcomes of MASLD/MASH, including hepatic and non-hepatic consequences of unchecked disease progression
  • To discuss optimal multidisciplinary collaboration between endocrinology, cardiology, primary care and hepatology to improve care of people with MASLD/MASH

The following speakers have received an honorarium from Novo Nordisk for their input to and facilitation of this educational material:
