This ERN Rare-Liver webinar, held on 25 June 2024, focuses on liver cyst infection, the feared complication of cystic liver disease.
Liver cyst infection is a rare but one of the most challenging complications of cystic liver disease. Liver cyst infection often necessitate extended hospital admissions, require long-term antibiotic treatment and frequently recur, which all significantly impact the quality of life of these patients. Both diagnosis and treatment are a considerable challenge in daily clinical practice. The European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) recently published a clinical practice guideline on the management of cystic liver disease. In addition an expert consensus on how to manage these complex patients with a cyst infection has been formulated. The goal of the webinar is to inform the wider community of the clinical decision framework which was developed, to provide the clinician tools to timely diagnose and adequately treat patients presenting with a liver cyst infection.
